A Darlington bar has announced it will be closing its doors for the final time in just a few weeks, citing the cost of living and rising prices.
Avalon, a late-night bar and music venue on Blackwellgate in Darlington has confirmed it will shut its doors for good on March 2.
The venue, which is known for its variety of DJs, drag performers and special guests has become a highlight for partygoers in Darlington and has amassed over 12,000 followers online.
Before it closes for good, two special leaving party events promising a whole host of DJs will take place on Saturday, February 24 and Saturday, March 2.
A statement by owner Lindsey Stephenson on Facebook confirmed the news and thanked the venue's customers over the years.
She wrote: "After months of trying to tackle rising costs of utilities, rent increases, staff cost, alcohol tax increases, business rates, taxes and a whole load more we’ve came to a very difficult decision to step away from Avalon and close the doors.
"We want to thank all our loyal customers and staff who have been supporting us since we took over in 2020.
"We will be having two huge closing parties starting this Saturday with the RESIDENT LEAVING PARTY!
"Every DJ that has played in Avalon over the last 5 years will be joining us this Saturday for one last big blow out from 7pm. The final night we will be hosting a huge Kryptic Party with a monster line up from 5pm."
Residents have reacted with sadness and upset to the news online, with one commenter calling it "the best place in town".
