Concerns over the restoring of road surface on a stretch of street in Northallerton during five-day roadworks have been addressed after the council said it would be replaced "like for like".
Roadworks are currently being undertaken on Zetland Street in Northallerton, which started on Monday (March 11) and are scheduled to finish today (Friday, March 15).
During the works, cars have been blocked from using the street and forced to go around through High Street or use the A167 East Road.
The roadworks, which are being carried out by Northern Powergrid involve ripping up part of the road surface to allow for power works along Zetland Street.
This has left piles of rubble on the side of the street, which is closed off to pedestrians, and orange fences erected.
Initially, concerns about how the roadworks would be carried out and how the road surface would be restored had been raised.
Back in 2022, it was announced that the Northallerton improvements works were going to cost £700,000, due to developers and builders using "high quality" stone for the works, including on Zetland Street.
As a result, this caused confusion over whether the "high quality" stone would be relayed once the works were finished.
However, North Yorkshire County Council has now moved to allay concerns about the works, saying that Northern Powergrid will have to replace the surface with "like for like materials".
In a short statement from the council, a spokesperson said: "Northern PowerGrid will be required to reinstate the surface in 'like-for-like' materials. It is then up to them to relay and resurface the road."
