Police descended on a B&M store on Sunday morning after a man reportedly broke into the shop causing chaos.
The car park of the bargain retailer’s Northallerton branch was cordoned off to shoppers with several police units at the scene.
North Yorkshire Police have since said a man had forced his way into the store before opening before causing damage.
“He made his way through the store, damaging items and throwing goods towards officers who had arrived at the scene,” a force spokesperson said.
The man, in his 30s, has since been arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage and assaulting three police officers.
An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing.
