Police have issued a warning to motorists after a driver was caught speeding at 93mph near a village in North Yorkshire,
Officers from North Yorkshire Police clocked the speeding driver on the A6055 near Catterick village during a police operation to slow down drivers across the region.
This speeding incident comes after a similar one where another driver was caught speeding 43mph in a 30mph zone on Leyburn Road in Catterick Garrison.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: "Following concerns from local residents’ we will be conducting increased speed enforcement checks across the Richmondshire area over the coming weeks.
"During the summer months, we see an influx of visitors to the area and sadly this can also lead to an increase in collisions on our roads."
The police force confirmed that both drivers involved in the speeding incidents were prosecuted.
Working with residents, the police have now identified several locations in the Richmond area where they will be conducting patrols.
These locations are at Leyburn, Skeeby, Hudswell, Aldbrough St John, Catterick Village/Garrison, Manfield, Eppleby, Stapleton, Dalton On Tees, Melsonby, West/East Witton, Tunstall, Carlton, Cleasby, Scotton, Gilling West, East/West Layton, Redmire, Scorton, Brompton on Swale, Bellerby, Hunton, Patrick Brompton, Middleham, Hawes, Grinton, Askrigg, Reeth, Aysgarth, Harmby villages, plus Newbiggin near to the Street Head Inn as areas to target.
Inspector Martin Metcalfe from the Richmondshire Neighbourhood Policing Team said:
“If you speed, you are now much more likely to be caught and prosecuted, so I would urge you to adhere to the speed limits and drive to the conditions.
“We will also not tolerate any anti-social motorists including motorcyclists that choose to use the roads dangerously."
