Climate Action Stokesley and Villages (CASaV) are always looking for ways in which we can help local people do their bit, however modest, to address climate change impacts and save energy at the same time.

The opportunity to be part of a project led by North Yorkshire Council - the Local Area Advice Demonstrator (LEAD) – was too good to miss. The LEAD project is a scheme to stimulate demand for energy efficiency measures in homes across North Yorkshire with funding from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

This project will provide eligible households with a free home energy plan, which will include information about home improvements that can help to reduce energy use.

Darlington and Stockton Times: A new free home energy advice project is underway

CASaV is a not-for-profit organisation that exists to promote awareness of how we can all make a difference and encourage action through a wide range of initiatives, such as our Repair Cafes. As part of our ongoing work, we are supporting the LEAD project by providing home energy information specifically in Stokesley and the surrounding villages.

But don’t delay – the number of surveys is limited.

The scheme is available for eligible households in Stokesley, Great Ayton, Potto and most of the surrounding villages. To benefit from this scheme, you need to:

  • Live in one of the neighbourhoods targeted.
  • Be a homeowner, private tenant, landlord, shared owner of your property.
  • Have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) of C or below.

Visit www.northyorks.gov.uk/housing-and-homelessness/other-housing-information/energy-efficiency-advice/planning-your-homes-energy-journey to check if you’re eligible and use the online form to sign up for a home energy plan.

If you are eligible an assessor will contact you to arrange a home assessment. This will be delivered by Align Property Partners who are also supporting this project. The assessment will be non-intrusive; however, the assessor will need access to all rooms in your property, including the loft, if you have one. Photos and measurements will be taken of your property to assess its condition. You will also be asked about your energy usage.

Each plan will be personalised based on the information received from your home assessment. However, each plan will include:

  • A detailed insight into the energy efficiency and condition of your home.
  • An illustration of potential energy savings, by making recommended changes to your home.
  • Information about the different technologies available.
