A new charity shop has opened its doors in a North Yorkshire town centre - welcoming customers for the first time on Wednesday (May 29).
Yorkshire Cancer Research unveiled its newest store in Richmond, with staff on hand to greet new customers of the shop.
The shop, located in the town’s marketplace, welcomed customers for the first time - and offering an opportunity for people to donate clothes and other items in Richmond.
Dr Kathryn Scott, chief executive at Yorkshire Cancer Research, has opened up about how this new shop will benefit people in the region impacted by cancer.
She said: “It’s great to be in Richmond. The opening is an opportunity for people in the area to shop, donate and volunteer to help make a difference for people with cancer.
“Yorkshire Cancer Research exists so more people live longer healthier lives, free of cancer and the charity’s shops play a vital role in making this possible. The funds raised in Richmond will help fund cancer research and pioneer new services for people with cancer in Yorkshire.”
The shop is the charity’s tenth in the region and forms part of an ambitious target to have a shop on every high street in Yorkshire over the coming years.
Dr Scott continued: “This represents the next step in Yorkshire Cancer Research’s mission to have a shop on every high street in Yorkshire.
“As Yorkshire’s cancer charity, we’re firmly rooted in local communities and this will help raise awareness of the cancer research taking place in the region.
"It will also help to bring employment and volunteering opportunities to the community, as well as contributing to the high street.”
