A rock climber was seriously injured in a fall yesterday (Saturday, June 9), and had to be airlifted out of the Yorkshire Dales. 

Just after 1pm yesterday emergency services were called out to a fallen climber, in Scugdale, near Swainby. 

Cleveland Mountain Rescue, the Great North Air Ambulance, the police and the ambulance service were all called out to bring the man to safety.

The climber had sustained "potentially serious injuries" and after treatment by the ambulance crew and the mountain rescue volunteers, he was carried off the crag by the mountain rescue team. 

A spokesperson for Cleveland Mountain Rescue said: "After transferring him to a Yorkshire Air Ambulance helicopter they gave him their best wishes for his recovery process before he was then flown to hospital.

"Eighteen Cleveland MRT members were involved for approximately two-and-a-half hours before some rejoined a mountain biking event in Ardmoors, whilst others returned to base or their homes."
