A woman in her 30s has died after a fatal crash on the A19 on Tuesday (June 11) that has seen another woman arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Emergency services were called to the A-road between Hutton Sessay and Carlton Husthwaite, near Thirsk, at around 1.15pm, following reports of a two-car collision.
The collision involved a blue Skoda Enyaq and a red Vauxhall Corsa.
The driver of the Corsa, a woman in her 30s, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her family is being supported by specially trained officers.
The driver of the Skoda, a woman in her 40s, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
She has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
The road was closed while the scene was examined and cleared.
It reopened at about 7pm.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: "Anyone who witnessed the collision, saw either of the vehicles involved prior to the collision, or has relevant dashcam footage, is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police.
