The latest winner has been honoured as part of Richmond's Amazing Neighbour campaign – but, like many superheroes, they have asked to remain anonymous.

The drive to highlight acts of community kindness was launched earlier this year by Richmond Yorkshire CIC, a newly formed community interest company.

It sees residents in Richmond and more generally, the DL10 postcode area, nominate people deserving of recognition for their good deeds.

Each month, an Amazing Neighbour is receiving £100 in shopping vouchers following consideration of the nominees by a judging panel.

Baroness Harris of Richmond, one of the judges, said: "When we consider the shortlist of stories each month that exemplify neighbourliness, they are all really moving, which makes our decision-making quite a challenge."

This month was no exception, with two Amazing Neighbours achieving top marks from the panel.

July's winner, who has asked to remain anonymous, was nominated by a young woman called Emma who lives on her own in the town.

She sings the praises of her neighbour, saying although he's a lot older than she is, he helps her out however he can, by driving her to appointments as well as collecting things for her when she's unwell. He’s also a great listener. "I'm delighted he's won", Emma said. "He does so much for so many people where we live."

True to form, Emma’s Amazing Neighbour, who requested Lidl shopping vouchers for his prize, has asked the Richmond Yorkshire CIC, to give half of his prize, or £50 of the vouchers, to young residents in the Galleries supported housing development.

Paul Grady, one of the housing support workers at the Galleries said: "We are really grateful that, yet another recipient of the Amazing Neighbours award has asked that our residents should also benefit from the prize. This really is incredibly generous."

If you have a deserving Amazing Neighbour or friend, why not nominate them to win one of the monthly prizes of £100 of shopping vouchers? It just takes a few minutes to enter the details of your neighbour and tell us about how they’ve made life a bit better for you. Either pick up an entry form from Richmond Information Centre in the Market Hall or go online and complete a form at www.amazingneighbours.com. Amazing Neighbours can be any age and anyone living in the DL10 postcode area is eligible.

Amazing Neighbours has been made possible with the support of local businesses and organisations including Cooper & Leatherbarrow Opticians, in Finkle Street, Richmond; Zetland Estates; Oliviers Furniture on the Gallowfields Trading Estate; North Yorkshire Council; Richmond Information Centre; The Station Cinema; the Darlington & Stockton Times; Purple Creative Studio and Richmondshire Today.

In August, the other Amazing Neighbour, who had the same top score as Emma's nominee this month, will receive the £100 of shopping vouchers that are on offer.

Amazing Neighbours is continuing throughout the year. Once someone has been nominated, they stay in the running for the duration of the promotion.
