SOCCER experts are teaming up with a local authority to encourage parents to take a greater interest in their children's education.
Middlesbrough Football Club in the Community have joined forces with North Yorkshire County Council for the initiative.
They are holding a series of football sessions for youngsters aged between five and seven in the Northallerton area.
"It's designed to use football as a way of engaging more families in their children's education by looking at areas such as healthy eating, keeping fit, and so on, and at the same time emphasising the importance of reading with your child," said a spokeswoman for North Yorkshire County Council. "The aim of the course is to use football to make learning fun."
The course will be held at Mill Hill Primary School in Northallerton between 5pm and 6.15pm every Monday from September 22 until the end of term.
