The work is expected to go on until the end of August.

Here is the current schedule of work from Darlington Council:

A Darlington Borough Council spokesperson said: "During this time the Laing Street / West Auckland Road junction will be closed.

"On Sunday 18 and Sunday 25 August the road will be closed between Willow Road and Bates Avenue for resurfacing.

"The West Auckland Road and Brinkburn Road junction will not be resurfaced, as there is a planned highway improvement scheme due to start here in the near future.
