Umbrellas were mostly used for shade - rather than showers - at the 14th annual Deer Shed festival.

Revellers enjoyed sunshine across the weekend at Baldersby Park in Topcliffe near Thirsk for three days of music, comedy and family-friendly entertainment.

“Unforeseen circumstances” put water pipes out of action across the site but any concern was swiftly resolved by organisers who trucked in huge tanks of water and handed out bottles of H2O to keep everyone hydrated.

Festival goers were also well served by the eclectic cocktail of acts who took to the many stages.

From the easy-listening grooves of soul singer Jalen Ngonda to the calypso-esque instrumental stylings of girl group Los Bitchos to the infectious, irresistible indie-rock-pop notes of returning favourites The Go! Team (supported by a flash mob), a vast variety of musical genres had a spot in the limelight.

International acts added more flavour to the mix, including Afro beats from The Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Kokoko, high-energy anthems from Dutch seven-piece Personal Trainer and the distinctive, guitar-supported vocals of Philadelphia-hailing BC Camplight.

The weekend’s headliners - The Coral, Bombay Bicycle Club and Irish solo star CMAT - all went down a storm, pulling huge crowds and sparking mass singalongs.

Other big names included Alex Horne and his Horne Section, who had mums and dads laughing out loud with their unique songs and original covers, and Bristolian stand-up Mark Watson, who got up close and personal with the Big Top crowd at Saturday’s late-night comedy slot.

This all came alongside an even wider variety of entertainment for youngsters, with multiple tents dedicated to hands-on activities, such as sewing, drilling, crafting, and even Jedi fighting, as well as masses to do outside, including a whole field dedicated to sporting fun.

Another year, another success, proving there’s a shedload of fun to be had at Deer Shed.
