A MAN who was driving a coach when it was involved on a collision with a car, killing two people, has been arrested.
A man and a woman from South Yorkshire died following the incident at Staxton Crossroads, near Scarborough, when the coach collided with their grey Volkswagon Passat.
The coach driver, a 52-year-old man from Staffordshire, was arrested yesterday morning (Tuesday) and remains in police custody.
He was one of four people on board the coach who were taken to Scarborough District Hospital with minor injuries.
Police are still appealing for information from anyone who saw the incident, which took place at about 9am on Sunday.
A police spokesman said: "A number of witnesses have now come forward.
"However officers are still trying to establish the last movements of the grey Volkswagen Passat, and still want to speak with anyone who was in the area of Staxton crossroads or heading towards the junction on any of the adjoining roads, who remembers seeing the Passat or the coach in the minutes leading up to the collision.
"Anyone with any information, no matter how insignificant they may think it is, is asked to please get in touch with Scarborough Road Policing Group on 0845 60 60 247."
