Roadworks are set to begin on a busy Darlington road.

Northern Powergrid is starting new connection works for the new Darlington Station car park on Neasham Road from next week.

Darlington Council has confirmed that two-way signals will be used on Neasham Road from Monday, September 2, until Tuesday, September 3.

A half-road closure will then be put in place for 16 days from Wednesday, September 4, until Friday, September 20, when there will be no access to Neasham Road from the Parkgate roundabout.

The diversion will be Yarm Road and Geneva Road - with the access from Neasham Road into town being open.

The new multi-storey car park forms part of a multi-million-pound revamp that will see two modern platforms, a brand new concourse building, and a fully accessible footbridge to connect it with the current Victorian station.

This will be one of a few roadworks in the area ongoing at the same time - with low-impact works taking place on John Williams Boulevard South until November 25 and medium-impact works from Neasham Road to Parkgate Footbridge for the station gateway project.

There are also two road closures further down Yarm Road, near the Hundens Lane and Ridsdale Street junction, as Northern Gas Networks carry out works.
