A possible war time unexploded device was exploded overnight at Saltburn beach.
The device was found by a member of the public and reported to the police.
Officers came to the scene with the Coastguard and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team.
A cordon was put in place while a controlled explosion was carried out.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "A controlled explosion was carried out this morning (Saturday, August 31) on Saltburn beach after a report that a suspected unexploded device, possibly from wartime, had been located by a member of the public.
"Officers attended along with colleagues from the Coastguard and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team (EOD).
"A cordon was put in place whilst the controlled explosion was carried out around 4.10am, and this was lifted afterwards."
