Plans to turn an empty building into a Greggs on the A168 in North Yorkshire have taken a step forward after council officers approved permission for signage earlier this week.

The food giant, which has numerous shops in the North East and North Yorkshire, submitted proposals to North Yorkshire Council for a fascia sign, one projecting sign and one totem sign at the empty store on the A-road, between Thirsk and Topcliffe earlier this year.

After welcoming Starbucks to the stretch of the A168 over the last 18 months, Greggs looks set to move into the empty unit between the coffee drive-thru and Shell petrol station.

Earlier this year, plans were created to add signs showing the Greggs logo, which would be added to the shop and drive-thru area at the side of the A168.

On North Yorkshire Council's planning portal, the Greggs signs will be added on and next to the shop.

While Greggs hasn't yet confirmed the details of the new store and the A168 location on its website, the application form on the plans states that the application is on behalf of the food company.

On Tuesday (September 3), North Yorkshire Council approved the plans for the Greggs signs - paving the way for the fast food giant to move into the building.

Approving the application on Tuesday, North Yorkshire Council said in a report published in the planning portal that: "The proposed signs will not have a harmful impact on the visual amenity of the surrounding area and will not compromise highway safety or raise any public safety concerns."
