The start of the new term marked a historic moment for a private prep school in North Yorkshire as the first ever girls joined the student body.
Aysgarth Prep School, at Newton-le-Willows, near Bedale, welcomed 34 girls - the first in the school’s near-150-year history, taking the prep school total to 152.
This brings co-education to years four to eight, following more than 30 years of co-education in the pre-prep school.
Headmaster Jonathan Anderson said: "While this is a change, the essence of what makes Aysgarth special remains the same – academic excellence, strong community, rich traditions, and boundless opportunities.
"Some girls have already joined the Chapel choir, all are proudly wearing their uniforms, and they’re fully embracing everything the school has to offer."
