The Mayor of Richmond, Councillor Robert White, took time out from his busy schedule to drop in to the latest Richmondshire Repair and Repurposing Cafe, which was held at the Town Hall on Sunday, September 8.

The mayor spent some time chatting with a few of the repairers and other local volunteers who were busy ensuring the event went smoothly. About 30 items were brought in for repair, and about half of them were successfully fixed on the day.

The events are organised by the Richmondshire Climate Action Partnership to help local people to take positive action to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill, by repairing rather than replacing household items.

Richmond Town Council provided £100 of start-up funding to help get the repair cafe off the ground, and its funding has helped to support two successful events so far.

The organisers are now on the lookout for new volunteers to add to its existing roster, both for the repairs and for meet and greet activities.
