"Friday the 13th" lived up to its reputation for Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team as the volunteers were called out three times.

The first call came in mid-afternoon from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to help a man who was reportedly unwell and unable to continue his walk along the Cleveland Way at Kirby Hill between Lordstones and Wainstones.

Fortunately, one of the team members was walking with his son in the area and was soon able to assess the man’s condition, before being joined by other team members. The man was subsequently carried on a rescue stretcher for about 400 metres down to a rescue Land Rover and transported to a nearby farm.

He was transferred to a waiting ambulance for treatment in hospital.

Not long after getting home from that call-out, they were called out again, this time by North Yorkshire Police, to search for a missing person. The person was soon located after having provided a What3Words online location in the Guisborough Woods area. After being checked over by team members the person was transported in a team vehicle to be reunited with a family member.

The final call came just before 10.30pm, with a request from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to assist one of their crews in the vicinity of Captains Cook’s Monument with the extraction of a male casualty. A Yorkshire Air Ambulance crew was also in attendance. Both of those crews subsequently handled the casualty care treatment on scene.

Once the casualty had been dealt with by the medical staff, the volunteers lifted him onto a rescue stretcher and secured him within a casualty bag to warm him up. He was then carried for approximately 350 metres down a narrow path lined with thick gorse and bracken. On reaching Gribdale Gate carpark they transferred him to the waiting ambulance.

A spokesperson for the team said members passed on their good wishes to all three people for a swift recovery.
