St Teresa’s Hospice is set to host a special walk to remember lost loved ones.
The Darlington charity is inviting people to join the Moonlight and Memories Walk in South Park on Friday, October 11.
Those taking part will get a t-shirt and glow wands for the walk - which is approximately 3.8km and will take 45 to 60 minutes - and a hot drink to warm up.
The aim of the walk is to remember loved ones while helping “make a real difference” to the support St Teresa’s can give to people in the area.
Organisers say that when choosing the t-shirts - which will be included in a fundraising pack - it is best to size up and wear over a coat with temperatures likely to be chilly in mid-October.
While the majority of the walk will be along paths, part of it will see families - and dogs too - trek across a grass field. However, an alternative route is available for those unable to walk across grass along Clifton Road.
The walk is due to kick off at 6.30pm, with the price for adults set at £18, children under 16 years old at £12, and under fives free (although a t-shirt and wand are not provided).
There’s also a family bundle for two adults and two children, set at £50.
The walk comes as St Teresa’s continues to issue a plea over its “vital” rapid response service after its contract was awarded to the County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust (CDDFT) and not the hospice.
The NHS trust was chosen as the successful bidder following a new tendering process - although this sparked outrage among clinicians and practice managers.
In a letter signed by the GPs, they say they "do not believe the decision made is in the best interests of patients and the community".
