The programme of a jazz festival has been revealed as organisers gear up for the start of it later this month.
The highly anticipated Leyburn Jazz Festival is just around the corner, returning to the Wensleydale market town from October 17-20.
As the festival enters its fourth year, ticket sales have been strong, with jazz lovers from near and far gearing up for a weekend of music in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.
This year’s festival features performances at St Matthew's Church and Tennants Garden Rooms, offering a backdrop for some of the UK’s jazz talent.
Festival highlights include jazz guitar legend Jim Mullen, the soulful and award-winning vocalist Zoe Gilby, and the high-energy, foot-stomping New Orleans vibes of Alligator Gumbo and the Worth Valley Hot 7.
Headlining this year is Hejira, a seven-piece band dedicated to the jazz-infused sounds of Joni Mitchell's late 1970s era.
Colin Bailey, festival coordinator for BlueBoxt Creative and Performing Arts, the community charity behind the event, said: “We've worked hard this year to bring a mix of talent that appeals to a broad audience.
"The response has been fantastic, and with just days to go, there’s a real buzz in the air. We can't wait to welcome everyone to Leyburn for what promises to be our best festival yet.”
Claire Cameron, who leads the festival’s outreach efforts, shared her excitement about the event’s growing impact, adding: “Seeing the community and visitors come together around music is so rewarding.
“It’s a celebration not only of jazz but of the whole area, from the music to the vibrant local hospitality.”
