The first ever Wensleydale's Got Talent show featured 20 varied acts, as audience members packed the pews at Holy Trinity Church, Wensley.

After an introduction from "Light My Choir," master of ceremonies, Harry Scrope welcomed judges Lady Bolton, Valerie Bolton, Kathy Opanowich and Mark Sprout, who said at the end how difficult their decisions were.

Performers of all ages took to the stage and showcased their talents, while acts were interspersed with non-competing performances by Elizabeth Carter and Mick Yare and The Play>Record>Perform band.

The variety of talents on show included solo singers, duets, violin, saxophone, drums, dancers, guitar players with and without vocals, an organ recital, a one-time-only ABBA tribute band, and even a stand-up comedy act.

Prizes were presented by Hector Orde-Powlett as follows:

  • First prize – Jonty Ledbetter, who performed “Back in Black by AC/DC” on his electric guitar, winning £50 donated by Harry Scrope and David Greenwood.
  • Second prize – Lili Bako, who sang solo “Into the Unknown – from Frozen” and won a book token donated by The Wonky Tree Bookshop in Leyburn.
  • Third prize – A Latin dance duo of Jack and Cara, aged 11 and ten, who won a large hamper donated by Campbells of Leyburn. They are working towards competing in the British Championships in Blackpool in November.

A spokesperson for the event, held on Saturday, October 12, said: "It was inspiring to witness the 20 diverse talents on show, and we have no doubt many will go on to perform on grander stages in the future.
