Dedicated pub quizzers have handed over the proceeds of their bonus fund to two charities.
Each Monday, the Cross Keys in Bellerby, near Leyburn, holds a quiz which, although strictly for fun, also has a serious aspect.
All participants pay an entry fee of £1. This gives them a raffle ticket with a chance to answer a bonus question after the main event, which has a cash prize attached. If the prize isn’t won, it is banked, along with the remaining proceeds, to be given to charity.
In order to build a pot of cash, the bonus questions can be quite tricky.
Over the last few months, the fund has grown to £1,000, which has been equally distributed between the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) and Cancer Research.
Representatives of both charities were invited to the Cross Keys to receive their donations last week.
On Tuesday, Sheonagh Jones, community fundraiser for GNAAS collected £500 from the quizzers. Then on Thursday, Jan Leafe, of Cancer Research, was invited to the Cross Keys to be presented with a cheque for £500.
Anyone interested in joining the quiz and boosting future funds is welcome – it is held each Monday at 7.30pm in the Cross Keys, Bellerby.
