Middlesbrough Council’s website has been targeted by suspected online hackers.
The attack began on Wednesday morning and was quickly identified by the council’s IT department.
While the website was temporarily taken offline, no data or services were put at risk.
A Middlesbrough Council spokesperson said: "Work is currently under way to ensure that the council and its data remains protected against future attacks through strong cybersecurity measures."
The council directed people needing to access its services to use the relevant Contact Centre numbers:

A spokesperson added: "We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and will provide you with a further update as soon as possible.
"Thank you for your patience and understanding."
