A Darlington bird rescuer is available soon to heal and look after injured birds.

Laura Hewitt has been helping birds out for years but now she feels there is a need to take more in.

She can look after gulls, pigeons, doves, magpies and anything that needs help as long as she has space.

On November 12, she will be available to contact through her Facebook page to contact for advice or for rescue calls.

Ms Hewitt said: "I'm an independent bird rescuer based in Darlington. I take in all sorts, gulls, pigeons, doves, magpies, and anything that needs help so long as I have the space.

"I've been helping birds out for a few years by myself, but recently the need for me to take in more has arisen. I help them either make their way back to the wild, to a sanctuary that can help them further, or even a pet home if needed like my current temporary resident Freckles.

"The past month I've had four birds, one that stayed with me for nearly a month as I hand reared him. I don't do this for money, I do this as there is a major need in this town.

"Please bear in mind I am only one person doing the very best I can."
