An application for full planning permission has been submitted to North Yorkshire Council for the change of use from a Methodist Chapel into a retreat and prayer centre run by the Ravensworth Chapel Trust.

The planning application proposes several changes to the existing building all of which it says would be sympathetic to the adjoining buildings and the wider conservation area within Ravensworth.

A small rear extension is proposed on the southeast corner of the building that borders the garden to West View Cottage.

Planning documents state the proposed conversion will introduce a practical and respectful design, reviving the chapel whilst preserving its character and historical significance.

The building will retain its single-storey structure, with a partial mezzanine added to create a single en-suite bedroom.

Additionally, a small ground floor extension to the rear will provide a kitchen area.

The remaining ground floor will house a large reception room, meeting room, and new WC facilities.

The refurbishment will make use of materials in keeping with the building's existing aesthetic, ensuring harmony with the chapel’s original architecture.
