A treasure trove of perfectly preserved vintage Star Wars Lego sets is set to go under the hammer in the North East later this month.

This rare collection of pristine sets, dating back to when Lego first collaborated with Star Wars, are sure to be a blast from the past for all the 90s kids.

The sets, which include some of Lego’s earliest Star Wars creations, are part of an auction taking place at Thornaby-based Vectis Auctions on November 27.

The collector, who wrapped and stored the boxes shortly after purchasing them, has ensured they remain in near-perfect condition for more than two decades. The sets are estimated to fetch between £950 and £1,200.

The unnamed vendor said: “I bought them when Episode I first came out. It was the first time Lego had done Star Wars sets, I can remember thinking ‘how many people will buy and build and lose pieces?'

“So, I wrapped them in brown paper to keep the light out and bubble wrap to protect the boxes. I’ve been thinking for years that there can’t be any better examples in the world than my sets from that time.”

The release of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace in 1999 was a cultural phenomenon, reigniting excitement for the beloved franchise. Lego’s launch of Star Wars sets marked the first time the iconic toy brand partnered with a film franchise, creating models that became instant classics.

Sets like the Naboo Starfighter and Podracers allowed fans to bring the galaxy far, far away into their living rooms. Now, these sets, untouched and unassembled, offer collectors a chance to relive that moment in pop culture history.

Videos shared by Vectis Auctions show the unwrapping of two sets, revealing the impeccable condition of the boxes, as if they had just been taken off a shop shelf.

For auctioneers and collectors alike, the story of how these sets were preserved adds to their appeal. The auction promises to draw both seasoned collectors and nostalgic fans alike.

The sets are listed as Lots 203 to 216 in the Lego & Action Man auction.

For those interested, the auction will take place at Vectis Auctions on November 27, with online bidding also available.

You can also view videos of the unwrapping process on Vectis Auctions’ TikTok and YouTube pages.

This collection isn’t just about rare toys, it’s a chance to own a piece of the magic that defined a generation.
