A North Yorkshire nightclub has banned "scruffy footwear" and tracksuits.
DeFacto in Ripon posted the new rules on its Facebook page, asking customers to take note of the dress code for DJ nights on Fridays and Saturdays.
The management has declared a "smart/casual" dress code, banning joggers, shorts, scruffy footwear or work boots, sportswear or tracksuits, hats, and sunglasses.
They said this would provide a "better experience" for customers.
Following questions and feedback from customers, DeFacto management released a statement explaining their approach.
They said: "As the management of DeFacto, we understand the potential inconvenience of being rejected at our entrance.
"However, we also like to be understood that we started this journey as DeFacto with a new vision and implemented our own house rules believing that it will provide a better experience for our guests."
In addition to the dress code, there will be ID and bag checks carried out by security at the entrance.
The club also mentioned that it practices a free entrance policy but may charge on special nights.
Security staff may refuse entry to anyone who is "unduly intoxicated" or does not meet the dress code requirements.
The management pointed out that they have received both support and criticism from the Ripon community.
They stated: "When we first started our journey, we asked the Ripon community for support, which we have received from many, but also at times we have received unfair criticism, which undermined all our efforts of changing the old ways.
"We believe neither Ripon nor DeFacto is as bad as some of the comments would suggest they are and only together we can make it better."
The management assured patrons of their commitment to maintaining high standards and thanked their regulars for their continued support.
