Although Miss Dors wanted her stay at Croft to be kept secret, news of her presence spread like wildfire in the vicinity.

From this newspaper 25 years ago. – A recent find is puzzling archaeologists at Ripon. Cattle horn cores dug up during excavations in the garden of Minster House, are almost certainly waste from some medieval industrial process, but archaeologists are having to guess at what was manufactured on the site close to Ripon Cathedral. Mr Dominic Perring, director of excavations, told the Environment Committee on Thursday last week that he was working on three theories.

Among the foundations of a large 15th century building, his team had also discovered sunken timberlined vats and one possibility is that the site was the centre of a thriving tanning industry.
