RICHMOND Amateur Dramatic Society are busy rehearsing for their next production, Waiting for Godot, by Samuel Beckett, to be performed at the Georgian Theatre Royal, Richmond, in November.

Voted the most significant play of the 20th century in a National Theatre poll, the play centres on two tramps who are awaiting the visit of a Mr Godot. During their wait, they encounter a stranger and his even stranger servant and are brought a message by a boy.

Waiting for Godot is categorised as an “absurdist”

play but Beckett called it a “tragicomedy”.

Many academic and critical views have been expounded on the meaning of the play and its impact on contemporary audiences.

Director Jim Brown said: “There are many challenges imposed on the cast in interpreting and staging the play, but the results promise to be stimulating.

“Many theatregoers have probably heard of the play but not many have actually seen it on stage.”

Richmond audiences will have that opportunity from Thursday, November 6, to Saturday, November 8, at 7.30pm.

Tickets, priced £5 to £12, can be booked on 01748-825252.
