MOTORISTS will still be able to use a North York Moors car park while a £75,000 scheme to re-surface it takes place.
The North York Moors National Park Authority is to carry out the work on the car park at Thornton-le-Dale, near Pickering.
The scheme is expected to start soon and take five weeks but it will be done in stages so people can still use the car park.
The work is to be done as roots from the maple trees at the site are causing unevenness in the surface.
The park authority has taken expert advice and the maple trees are to be removed and other trees less likely to cause damage put in.
Senior ranger David Smith said: “The car park is well used by walkers, tourists and residents.
“By closing sections of the car park rather than the whole site we hope to keep any inconvenience to a minimum during this much needed work.
“Our car parks are often the first port of call for people visiting the national park so it is important that they create a good impression.”
