DIGGING for victory was the response at a children’s nursery where winning an outstanding accolade from Ofsted has been marked by the planting of a tree.
Kids 1st, in Alderman Leach Drive, is the only nursery in Darlington to be awarded a top grade in every inspection category.
A thrilled nursery manager Gerry Chapman said: “I couldn’t have done it without the support of my team. I am so proud of everything we have achieved in such a short space of time.”
The only aspect for improvement noted by the inspector was to further develop the outdoor area to promote learning and development – so planting a tree was a good start.
The Ofsted inspector, Vivienne Dempsey, describes the nursery as outstanding overall, with devoted staff, high security and strong leadership.
Following last month’s assessment, the report states: “Staff provide an extremely welcoming, stimulating and enabling environment, where children are valued as individuals.
“Extensive policies, procedures and records underpin the effective management of the setting. Children’s safety and welfare is paramount and they make very good progress in their learning and development.
“Enthusiastic and committed staff recognise the value of continuous quality improvement, this is underpinned by strong partnerships with support outcomes and provide continuity for all children.”
The report praises the children’s behaviour and the example set by staff, as well as the social development of the children.
