DARLINGTON Operatic society, whose production of Anything Goes is reviewed on the opposite page, has announced its next show will be The Full Monty.
After final curtain on the Cole Porter musical tomorrow night, rehearsals will start on Thursday for the autumn production. A plea has gone out for men to play lead roles as unemployed steelworkers who devise a quick way to make money by stripping.
The award-winning musical transports the action to Buffalo, New York, but the story remains true to the film on which it is based. The show was recently released for amateur productions.
Ian Whitfield, chairman, said: “All six male characters have to be strong actors, singers and movers. Added to this, one has to be played by a black, middle-aged actor. We are throwing the net wide knowing there are many talented men out there.”
Anyone interested should contact membership secretary Greta Sanderson on 01325-720556.
Rehearsals start on Thursday at 7.30pm in the East Hall at Darlington Arts Centre.
The show will be staged at Darlington Civic Theatre from October 28 to November 7, and tickets are already selling well. It is not suitable for children under 14.
