Children, who were playing near the mill dam, brought a paper to shore, a man cut the string and was surprised to see the body of what appeared to be a newly born male child.

From this newspaper 25 years ago. – Hambleton District Council faces legal and practical difficulties in dealing with itinerants who park caravans on unauthorised sites in parts of the district. A report by the chief executive, Mr Colin Spencer, described how the council’s powers were limited under two Acts of Parliament as well as by a government policy of non-harassment of caravan dwellers whose presence at Aiskew and Stokesley had brought a barrage of complaints.
