A FATHER-OF-TWO will tomorrow set off on a 1,000-mile lone cycle ride to raise money for homeless young people.
Graeme Holdsworth, 37, of Ingleby Barwick, aims to complete the 1,020-mile challenge from Land’s End to John O’Groats in just ten days.
Cycling 100 miles a day, and ascending a total of 55,942ft, he will carry all his equipment on his bike and sleep in youth hostels along the route. He described the venture as “quite a big challenge”.
He said: “I set myself the challenge because I wanted to give to a charity which helps homeless young people get back on their feet properly and Centrepoint does that, not just providing a safe haven off the streets, but providing them with the emotional, educational and health support to move forward.”
John Raynham, head of fundraising at Centrepoint, said Mr Holdsworth had already shown great determination and commitment in his training, planning and fundraising.
“He has raised over £3,800 to date, which will make such a huge impact on the work that Centrepoint does giving homeless young people a future to look forward to,”
he said.
