A TRADITION dating back more than 170 years has taken place in Coverdale.

The Ancient Order of Foresters held its biannual parade on Saturday, June 13, in the villages of Carlton and Melmerby. The 37 members were accompanied by Muker Silver Band as they marched from the Foresters Arms through Carlton to the Methodist chapel for a service, before heading to Melmerby.

Other activities included a fancy dress competition, quoits, clay pigeon shooting and children’s sports.

Committee member Les Brown said: “There was a good number of people watching – it was a great day.”
