THE Dexter cattle which star in chef Gordon Ramsay’s new F Word series have been supplied by Easingwold breeder Penny Hodgson.
She will appear regularly herself as she helps Janet Street-Porter rear them on her own smallholding in Nidderdale.
The cows are supplying her with milk to make ice-cream and cheese – while two steers are being reared by the journalist/presenter to make her own “mixed grill” of Dexter beef, Mangalitza pork and Ixworth chicken.
Mrs Hodgson, of Thornhill Dexter, said: “It was good fun, but a lot of hard work. As Janet will freely admit, she is not used to animals and I found it hard having some of my cows away from my farm.
“Janet has a great sense of humour and I was impressed about what she was prepared to do, especially as one of my quietest cows decided to kick her when having her udders checked!”
Together they were filmed showing some of the Dexters at Nidderdale Show at Pateley Bridge, aided by Mrs Hodgson’s neighbour, Paul Caygill.
The series is each Tuesday night on Channel 4.
● Thornhill Farm has an open day on Saturday, November 21, from 10am-4pm. People can see the animals, sample the beef and enjoy a tasty burger or sausage bun.
