THE Dover Prize biennial art competition takes place this month at Darlington Arts Centre.
A selection of work from more than 560 entries from across the region will be displayed in the lounge gallery and glass corridor gallery until the end of May. This year’s theme is Atmosphere and Emotion.
Contributing artists live or work in Durham, Tees Valley, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear and North Yorkshire.
The winner holds an engraved silver salver for two years, and there are prizes of £500, £300 and £200.
The competition, which replaced the Silver Longboat Competition, was relaunched in 2008. Prizes will be presented by the mayor at the preview on Tuesday, from 6pm-8pm. A Dover Prize website will show a selection of best entries.
