From this newspaper 50 years ago. – The intention of ICI to step up its output of fertiliser was referred to by Mr W J V Ward, the Billingham Division Chairman, in a speech to members of the Phosphate section. “We want every ton of fertiliser we can make,” Mr Ward said after observing that British farmers were using more fertiliser this year than ever before.
From this newspaper 25 years ago. – Vandalism at the Dolphin Centre in Darlington has become so bad that some people under 18 have been banned. During the last fortnight vandals have scrawled graffiti on walls and damaged lavatories.
