A GREAT-GRANDMOTHER has opened a shop in her home to help some of the world’s poorest people.

Margaret Parks, who has volunteered for Christian charity Traidcraft since it was established in 1979, will sell goods ranging from nuts to glassware at Beech House in South Terrace, Sowerby, Thirsk, tomorrow, on Tuesday and on Saturday, October 27.

The charity helps people in developing countries who cannot produce largeenough quantities of items to sell to other fair trade organisations.

Mrs Parks said a higher proportion of Traidcraft goods’ sale price was given to the producers than is passed on from fair trade items sold in supermarkets.
