MORE than 500 people gathered to say a final farewell to Lisa Porter, who died recently at the age of 49 after a long battle against breast cancer.
Lisa was well-known in both Swaledale and Wensleydale, where she contributed greatly to the community and ran a successful outside catering business. She catered for many functions, including the annual Muker Show.
After Lisa was diagnosed with breast cancer, she started chemotherapy treatment at the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton.
Following excellent treatment and care, she wanted to give something back so Lisa, assisted by friends and family, held an auction of promises which raised more than £26,000.
Subsequently, her husband Greg and friend Philip held a joint party and raised a further £1,500.
At Lisa’s request, there was a collection at her funeral, which raised £2,783.
Altogether she raised more than £30,000, which went towards the Alistair Bullen Aromatherapy Fund. Lisa had found this comforting during the time that she was ill.
Lisa will be sadly missed by her husband Greg, son Christopher, sister Sara, brothers Mark and Jonny, all her in-laws, nephews, nieces and her many friends.
