Sir, – What a pleasure it is to drive through Skeeby now the bumps have been removed. I can now go to Richmond without making a detour.
However slow you go you get a nasty jolt with these man-made obstacles, so I have, whereever possible, found an alternative route. Small vehicles are not equiped with the stronger suspension tyres etc of the larger vehicles e.g. lorries, buses, larger vans and 4x4s etc.
As an ex-road safety representative, I know there are other ways of speed reduction. I am sure repeated driving over these bumps can cause suspension, tracking and tyre damage.
How many times do we hear of drivers losing control of their vehicle. Could this be the result of damage as above? It is my observation that most drivers adhere reasonably to the speed limit, and watching traffic driving over the speed humps, some do not slow down anyway.
Why should we all suffer because of this minority of speeding drivers. There are ways to catch them without making the rest of us suffer.
