Sir, – Not before time I have received some literature re the approaching commissioner elections – interesting heading, "Police and Crime" Commissioner, given the current situation re the BBC, the police and A N Other. Can we trust the police nowadays and will a commisioner be able to?
My problem is that no-one locally has bothered to declare him/herself a candidate nor has there been any public discussion about why someone might feel qualified for such a post.
I have serious doubts about my ability, therefore my right, to vote, given that I have no knowledge of anyone who may want and be fit to oversee our large area of North Yorkshire, nor even a chief constable.
P.S. Whose idea was it to appoint commissioners?
