Sir, – Former pupils of Middlesbrough Boys’ High School who were evacuated to Teesdale during the early years of World War II, gathered for their 23rd annual reunion at the Jet Miner’s Inn, Great Broughton, on September 28.
Twelve attended, one having travelled from Brighton and another from Grimsby.
The group is still in touch with almost 40 survivors of the evacuation, which saw the boys billeted in Cotherstone, Romaldkirk and Lartington and attending school in part of Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle. All are now in their late 80s and inevitably a diminishing band, but they still have happy memories of their time in the villages.
