Sir, – Recently, the candidates for the post of North Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner were announced.
I know nothing about them other than their party labels.
Will I have a chance to meet either candidate at a public meeting and ask them about policing generally and specifically within this area?
Apparently not in the short time available before the election.
In any event the entire concept is potentially flawed with the introduction of politics into policing as shown in the US.
The risk also is that the pursuit of populism might interfere with the day-to-day running of the police force made likely by the concentration of too much power in the hands of one person.
For the above reasons I shall not vote on November 15.
