Sir. - It is pleasing to read that schools in Redcar and Cleveland are to benefit from a "£90m package to transform secondary education," but I would offer a word of warning for local residents.
The Government's Building Schools for the Future funding comes with a great many strings attached and in Stockton this has led to proposals which do not offer the future education our children need.
In Stockton South, despite a campaign by the local town council, independent councillors and myself, the borough council has failed to find a way to give Ingleby Barwick its much-needed additional school.
There is also an unpopular proposal to relocate Ian Ramsey and the plans to bring Thornaby Community School and Saint Patrick's together under one roof have dismayed parents in Thornaby.
Building Schools for the Future investment is desperately needed to equip our schools for the years ahead but the Government needs to remove some of the restrictions on how it is spent, or it risks causing longlasting problems for local communities.
JAMES WHARTON Conservative Parliamentary Candidate, Stockton South.
