Sir, - It is disappointing to learn that plans to construct a wind farm between Seamer and Hilton are being seriously considered, despite opposition.
To erect huge structures (from base to tip they would be higher than Huntcliff, Saltburn) at the proposed location would be unbelievably unpopular. Not only are there many unanswered issues regarding low frequency noise pollution, trafficdistracting shadow flicker, health issues and the general inefficiency of this form of electricity production, but the inevitable destruction of the surrounding natural beauty would be unforgivable.
Views of the Cleveland Hills would be drastically affected Residents of many surrounding villages would be horrified, as would huge numbers of people living in greater Teesside who travel through the area to the nearby national park.
Reduction in tourism will be a consequence - who wants their enjoyment spoilt by such monstrosities?
An issue that does not appear to have been addressed is the loss of agricultural land and its reinstatement. We are told that monies will be set aside for the dismantling of the turbines at the end of their life. Who will remove the huge concrete bases?
The perpetrators must have a wonderful crystal ball to determine such costs 25-30 years hence. No doubt it will be the lot of the tax payer, yet again, to foot the bill, the originators having disappeared over the hill long before with their booty.
I LEWIS Hilton, Yarm.
