Sir, - I hesitate to become involved in the BNP debate, raised by the Bishop of Durham's timely message (D&S April 18), but it seems only fair to point out two of our local MPs state that "they want to provide a united front against the BNP message and policies of hate", yet their party offers an open goal for any party wishing to protect British interests.

They refuse to listen to the majority of citizens who are in favour of this, but, even worse: ● by allowing a situation where other British countries are now advantaged over us, they increase demand for an English parliament.

● by continuing the flood of immigration to a country already bursting at the seams before the EU-inspired avalanche.

● by encouraging the headlong rush to give further powers to an EU state, without having the decency to allow the promised referendum.

● by letting political correctness override commonsense on so many things, they have lost the trust of the electorate.

Whether addressing these matters would "drain the swamp" referred to by the bishop "so that kind of ideology will not breed again" I don't know, but I consider it would be more in line with most thinking.
