Sir, - The Green Howards Museum in Richmond is now open again on Saturdays. For the last few weeks we have had to close, unfortunately because we did not have enough staff available.
I am pleased to say that we now have both a new shop manager and a museum assistant, so we can return to our regular opening hours - Monday to Saturday 10am to 4.30pm.
We are sorry for any inconvenience our Saturday closure may have caused; we do appreciate that many local people can only visit the museum at the weekends.
The museum is an independent business with a very small number of staff and volunteers, and without two key staff members we had no choice but to close on Saturdays. I am glad to say that the museum is now open for more hours than before we closed completely for several months during our recent restoration, so local residents and tourists have more opportunity to visit.
We always welcome new volunteers of all ages to help us run the museum. If you have a keen interest in military or local history and you can spare a few hours a week we should be delighted to welcome you to our small but dedicated team.
Call in to the museum, telephone the curator on 01748 826561 or email us at GHCurator@ aol.com for more information.
