Sir, – There is obviously no simple solution to the car parking problems in Yarm because any land that might have been used for this purpose is occupied by housing.
There is a conflict of interest between short- and long-stay parkers and it seems to be generally accepted that a two-hour limit is a reasonable compromise.
If a three-hour limit is put in place this will effectively reduce the number of parking places available for short-stay parkers; perhaps one solution would be to allow restricted parking for three hours in some of that part of the High Street which is a present unrestricted.
There is a good bus service between Yarm and Stockton which could be used more; a dedicated park and ride service would hardly be viable.
A final thought: a few years ago the newly-elected town council promised to sort out Yarm’s parking problems.
